Scotland Flag

Scottish Flag

The Scottish flag is the national flag of Scotland, consisting of a white saltire on a blue field, also known as the St. Andrew cross. The use of the flag is first recorded with a depiction of the heraldic flag in Sir David Lyndsay of the Mount's Register of Scottish Arms in 1542. It is possible that it is based on a late 15th century precedent, the use of a white saltire in the canton of the Blue Ensign, supposedly commissioned by Queen Margaret, wife of James III (1451-1488).
